How to Wash Boxing Hand Wraps

Hand wraps

For every boxer or fitness freak, washing hand wraps are a must as they fit comfortably and let you focus on your performance. Uncleaned hand wraps are susceptible to bacteria and fungi, which may lead to foul odors or infections. Washing them is essential to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Cleaning is now easy and convenient to do at home.

Boxers use hand wraps, strips of fabric, or other materials placed over their hands and wrists to support, shield, and balance them during practice and matches. Usually, they are composed of elastic, cotton, or a combination of the two.

The requirement for protection in boxing led to the invention of these wraps. When boxing first started, players would frequently wrap tape or strips of fabric over their hands to offer protection. Over time, hand wrap design and material have evolved to provide better comfort. With tips and instructions, you will keep your boxing wraps in perfect shape and be ready to take on any challenge that comes your way.

How do You Wash and Clean Hand Wraps

Secure the velcro of your wraps to avoid contact with the laundry, and throw them in the washing machine for deep cleansing. Wash the Boxing hand wrap at least after using 3-4 times to make it last longer.

Clean Wraps Start With Laundry!

Make sure the Velcro is sealed tightly before washing your wraps. Close the Velcro at each wrap’s end to avoid causing wear and tear. Because the Velcro parts are easily adhered to one another, they are kept safe in the washing machine. They might not stay in place if the velcro is left open because the seal could weaken.

Mesh Washing Bag- Protects Fabric and Equipment!

Your hand wraps should be placed inside a mesh washing bag. When washing your wraps, use a nylon lingerie bag. Zip up the bag once you’ve placed your wraps inside to prevent them from coming out when you wash them.

What’s so special about mesh bags? Hand wraps can quickly become tangled or knotted during the washing cycle. Placing them in a mesh laundry bag prevents them from wrapping around themselves, which can damage or stretch the wrap.

It is advisable to wash your highly bright wraps, such as deep blue or crimson, by themselves. Place your clothes bag in the washer by itself and set the load size to light. If the wrap’s color wears out, your white or light-colored clothing may become stained.

Use Detergent- A Strong Cleaning Action!

Place your detergent into the designated slot. To wash your wraps, use an all-purpose laundry detergent and fill the detergent slot in your machine.

  • Use an entire cup of detergent when washing them with other clothes.
  • Use one-third or one-half of the cup if you wash the wraps alone.

Try Warmwater- A Comfortable Temperature for Hand Wraps!

Use lukewarm water and a moderate cycle to prevent marks on your hand wraps while washing your clothes. This will keep your wraps in excellent condition. Warm water can cause your hand wraps to loosen, so stay away from the hot water setting.

Drying the Hand Wraps!

Place a wrap around each hanger’s bottom. Any option is excellent for drying your wraps. If you lay them flat, they will dry completely, but they might not dry evenly if folded or wrinkled.

Air-dry your wraps for one to three hours. Once your wraps are hung up, take them somewhere to allow them to air dry.

Storing Your Hand Wraps!

Proper storage matters to maintain the longevity and cleanliness of hand wraps!

Here’s how to do it;

  • Loosely roll your hand wraps with a rubber band.
  • To keep them fresh, always store them in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Avoid folding or creasing them.
  • Keep your hand wrapped away from pets and children. They may accidentally damage or dirty your wraps.
  • Sharing hand wraps can spread bacteria.
  • Please don’t wear your hand wraps for extended periods, as they can cause distraction and discomfort. Take regular breaks to rest your hands and wrists.

Is It Necessary To Wash Hand Wraps After Every Use?

Washing hand protectors after every use is not strictly necessary, but it is highly recommended. If you cannot wash your hand wraps after every use, aim to clean them at least once a week or more often if you use them frequently.

Also, remember that regular washing can extend the life of hand wraps by preventing the accumulation of dirt and germs.

How Often Should You Replace Boxing Wraps?

Replace every 4-5 months, depending on the frequency of use and how well you maintain them. You should be able to get some use out of wraps if you let them dry completely after every workout and wash them every third session.

Maintaining the cleanliness and freshness of your hand wraps is essential for optimum comfort, performance, and hygiene. If you want to buy hand wraps that last, shop at Infinitude at affordable prices.
